"… the disciples were urging Jesus, "Rabbi, eat something." But Jesus replied, "I have a kind of food you know nothing about." "Did someone bring him food while we were gone?" the disciples asked each other. Then Jesus explained: "My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. You know the saying, 'Four months between planting and harvest.' But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike! You know the saying, 'One plants and another harvests.' And it's true. I sent you to harvest where you didn't plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest." (John 4:31-38 NLT)
As I was pondering this passage, the Lord asked some questions.
"How many souls were lost globally to the pandemic? How many of them knew Me? Where were my ministers?
People were dying, and many were concerned with how to continue THEIR works rather than concerned with GOD'S heart for those souls.
Perhaps we should fight for a law that makes Pastors and Ministers essential workers in a health crisis. Those who are critically ill should be asked if they wish to speak to a spiritual person. It could be done by phone or video chat. Having this available to critical or dying people would have freed up medical workers to do their jobs and possibly brought about some miracles and salvations.
As of this writing (3/3/21), 1.5 million people have died from COVID-19 worldwide, with the United States having the highest count of over 500 thousand deaths. How many of them knew the Lord? Only God knows and I hope Holy Spirit spoke to them in their time of need.
I wondered, was the pandemic a possible missed opportunity for a great harvest of souls worldwide? How many died without the opportunity to receive salvation?
If we missed the opportunity, there is still time for correction. Every public live stream or online meeting should include a salvation invitation with ways to follow up. Ministries could also offer to pray for people by phone or video chat. Or you could go to the streets with prayer booths for anyone needing prayer. It can be done safely.
Ask God for ways to bring in the harvest during the remainder of this pandemic. He will most certainly answer that request. Let's not miss this opportunity.
Now back to that passage of scripture.
· Your provision and strength come from doing the will of God.
· The will of God is the harvest of souls.
· God will provide "good wages" for the harvesters.
You can reap the harvest where Satan has sown fear and death. Unknowingly he prepared hearts with desperation for something better. You have that better thing to give them.
Answer the cry of God's heart for today.
